Crash, Cancel, Reboot.

So for sometime now you may have noticed that I have been absent from my blog, twitter and so forth. Unfortunately this was due to a Hard-drive malfunction with my Mac. I have now replaced the damaged Hard-drive and been slowly trying to return my Mac to its former glory.

Now that I am back up and running I'll be posting again. I still haven't decided on a theme for a new series like I had previously been doing, so instead over the next few weeks I'll ease myself back into things by sharing with you all the different Design related subjects and objects that have kept me going.

Seasons Greetings

Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to you all. I hope you have had a wonderful holiday and were treated to lots of Graphic Goodies.

You may have noticed that I haven't posted anything over the past several weeks. I have been consumed with the holiday (it's my favorite time of year), while also battling Mac Malfunctions and an unruly Safari update. This has meant that I haven't really found the time to contribute anything worth while to my blog.

I have however been thinking to the future and what I hope to do and achieve. Many new ideas have came to me recently which I hope to make a start on very soon, and several friends and followers have had some great suggestions on new features I could add to the blog.

Over the next few weeks I will be considering and making a start on these projects, but in the meantime I will be keeping things quiet on the blogging front.

Spreading the word

Skint Now Online

I've now uploaded the Skint Festival project to my Portfolio website. The images unfortunately aren't anything you haven't seen before, but if you feel like stopping by to help increase the sites hits that would be ace.


Special mention and thank you to Sarah Knight who collaborated with me on this project. It was a blast and I hope we get to work together in the future.

Facebook, to Like or Dislike?

Today I have been debating whether or not to create a Facebook account for North of The Border. I can't decide if it is a worthwhile choice or not so I turn to you, my lovely followers. Should I set up the account or not?


In all honesty it would just be another place for me to announce my blog posts as well as any news on what I'm up to. It may not affect some of you as you already follow me through Blogger or Twitter, but for those of you that don't would you prefer to have that connection?

Graduation

So this week has been a big week for me as a couple of days ago I returned to the city of Carlisle for my Graduation ceremony. That is correct, as of Tuesday I officially have a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design.

Now I won't make this post all about me. I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to my wonderful tutors for all their guidance over the past couple of years (and even some last minute handy tips at the reception on Tuesday). You each managed to keep my focused and never aloud me give up on myself and the work I was producing. Thank you.

As for my friends and fellow graduates I wanted to wish you all the best with your futures. Flatland Now Online

I've just uploaded the Flatland project to my online portfolio site (www.notb.co.uk). It took longer than I thought it would, mainly because Photoshop seems to dislikes the sheer size of the document but thankfully it co-operated in the end. 

I am however a bit unsure with how it feels as a layout. Originally I thought the digitalized mock-up would suit the project and be really nice for you all to enjoy but I am now starting to second guess it. Please take a look at the page and let me know what you think; does the layout work? Would the images have been better if they were photographs? (photos I would most likely use can be found here: http://colinteevan.blogspot.com/2011/03/flatland.html).

New Portfolio site up and running

My new portfolio site is finally done. After spending months designing elaborate site and then deciding it wasn't good enough I eventually thought "sod this" and went for a simple, functional look.

So its been some time since I regularly updated my blog and kept you all informed on what I've been up to, well this was because I was on an internship with the Edinburgh based company G2G3. 


G2G3 are a games design company specializing in educational games for different companies throughout the globe. They work for some very big name clients that quiet frankly made my jaw drop. The group were kind enough to offer me a 3 month work placement were I helped them design and work on several projects including; infographics, editorial design, promotional material and of course assisting them in producing some of their games.


I learned a great deal about working alongside clients on large scale projects as well as the business aspect of design. I was also lucky enough to work with a lovely team and help support them in the great work they are pioneering. I want to thank everyone at G2G3 for being so welcoming and supportive not only with my time spent there but also with my future plans.

I would also like to take this time to thank my friend Megan Park who helped me land the internship. Meg is a fantastic Illustrator and one of G2G3's leading Illustrators and Designers. I highly recommend you check out her blog for some of the personal work she dabbles with in her spare time.

That's right, I caved in and decided to join the flock.  Admittedly I haven't decided just what to say with my new found power of "micro blogging", but I swear to do my best to uphold its integrity and only tweet about crucial issues... 


At least at first.  Eventually it'll just become another way of venting and bitching about the world like everyone else.  None the less add me and watch the change take place.  Actually it might make an interesting inforgraphics piece as I map the time it took to change and just what may have caused it lol.

Got the job

As you may recall last week I was putting together spreads for a newspaper to coincide with the Words By The Water Festival.  Today was the pitch to the editor...  I was selected to design the paper! :D  


Well ok I was one of the designers selected.  Myself and the amazing Leanne Swift must collaborate together to produce the final design for the festival.


This will be the first printed piece I've ever had made so I can't wait to hold and cherish the final outcome.
